Canyon Creek, John Day Basin, Oregon.
Background
The Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board has developed a Watershed Assessment Manual that directs the analysis of current watershed conditions relative to historic conditions. ORS 541.371 (1)(c) states that the OWEB board "shall establish statewide and regional priorities that shall become the basis for funding decisions by the board. In adopting such goals and priorities, the board shall adopt priorities for grant funding based on the Oregon Plan and on measurable goals. In carrying out this function, the board shall consider local economic and social impacts among the criteria." This website provides a summary of materials assembled to date by subbasin.
Structure
The restoration needs and priorities are summarized at the scale of third-field sub-basins. To date, a prioritization database has been completed for the Willamette sub-basin (click on link below to see sample product) and the Oregon portion of the Columbia River system (click on subbasin name to see available information). An assessment of priorities within the Oregon Coast Coho salmon ESU is anticipated for completion in 2007 (click on Coast area for map of watersheds to be included).
